Patients with suspected cancerous lesions often
undergo multiple examinations using several modalities
to improve the interpretation of the resulting
clinical images. Researchers at the University of
Maryland School of Medicine have developed a
novel methodology for the registration and fusion of
PET and CT scans to facilitate accurate diagnoses.
This fully automated 3D elastic image registration
technique can accurately align whole-body PET and
CT images acquired on standalone scanners and
combined PET/CT scanners
