Stellate was founded in 1986 by Dr. Jean Gotman, a neuroscientist at the Montreal Neurological Institute of McGill University to develop specialized software for EEG analysis, particularly for spectral analysis and brain mapping. The company launched the first commercially available spike and seizure detectors for long-term EEG monitoring of epileptic patients. Development of software for the analysis of sleep patterns was the next step in the company’s evolution. From its very early days, Stellate enjoyed wide recognition and acceptance from customers throughout the world.
In 1998, Stellate moved to the development and manufacturing of complete systems for EEG and Long-term Epilepsy Monitoring, followed shortly by the introduction of complete systems for Sleep Diagnostics. It rapidly became a major player in this field, supplying equipment to some of the best known and most advanced hospitals and clinics around the world. It continued its development of more advanced and clinically validated spike and seizure detectors, sophisticated computer-assisted sleep staging and event detection algorithms for Polysomnography, while being at the forefront of other innovative products such as digital high resolution video (first to have MPEG2 digital video) and advanced amplifiers (first to have portable epilepsy amplifiers with 128 channels and 2000Hz sampling rate).
Stellate continues to remain at the forefront of innovation, providing integrated solutions that include networking, database, recording, review and analysis systems for EEG laboratories, epilepsy monitoring units, sleep laboratories and intensive care units. Systems made by Stellate are used around the world by clinicians and researchers, including those monitoring experimental animals.
